Scottsdale News for Visitors
On this page we'll try to keep you updated to our ever-changing world of what's happening with the Scottsdale accommodations scene as new resorts are built, old resorts are sold and renovated and the general tourist scene. You can keep up with new restaurants and closings on the "dining" page.

Downtown Scottsdale is busy upgrading it's image, it wants to be where the young and nearly famous hang-out, whether visitor or local. So be ready for some big changes as we evolve from the "most western" to the most trendy city.

The James Hotel has recently been sold to the upscale Morgans Group, it will re-emerge as Mondrian Scottsdale. This sale will be effective April 30 2006 so until then you can hurry and book The James  right here, if you want that hip experience. And even though The James will be no more in Scottsdale, look for Chef Stephen Hansen (New Yorker founder of Fiamma Restaurant) and his partner to continue their entrepreneurial endeavors with a new James in Chicagoland scheduled to open in March and then broadening their horizons to New York, L.A. and other locations.

The old Sunburst Resort which has barely just emerged as the Caleo Resort and Spa was recently sold to the posh Kimpton Hotels. Watch for more on this property.

The old Valley Ho has just completed their facelift with a new art-deco design and reopened in December. Watch for the most recent photos. Visit their Zulu Lounge, classy, elite and comfortable place for the more mature 20 something to 40 something crowd.

W Hotels will be opening their idea of boutique hotel in 2007. Watch for W Scottsdale.

The Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa will become one of the Waldorf Astoria Collection, operated by Hilton Hotels. Hilton Hotels has owned the Waldorf Astoria since 1949. We believe as certain other hotels in the Hilton chain with historic names has maintained their special heritage, such as The Drake in Chicago, that The Biltmore will keep the name Arizona Biltmore. Wright's Restaurant, The Lounge and the spa are slated for updating. We hope nothing is changed too much, as we love it like it is, but nothing stays the same it seems.

...and older news but important for those of you who loved these hotel resorts -
Doubletree La Posada is undergoing renovations to the tune of $100million dollars, it will re-emerge at Montelucia.

Marriott Mountain Shadows has closed and is being turned into a multi-million dollar residential area - sad, but true! The Executive Golf Course remains open.

We'll keep you posted.
